Wal Mart and Costco Lead The Way

Yes, sales are booming at Wal Mart. Gee, I wonder why. The parking lot is always full these days, so much so you would think Wal Mart was giving something away.

And, because Wal Mart is so successful, some government officials have Wal Mart on the hit list. Hit list? Yes. There are all sorts of complaints about Wal Mart, one being health benefits, wages and more. But it never seems to materialize that many Americans work at places that do less for them than at Wal Mart. Wal Mart is singled out because it is successful and profitable. If workers could find a better deal elsewhere, they wouldn't be at Wal Mart. It's the market system at work.

Just wait. Some butthead in Congress or the Senate will want to do an excess profits tax on Wal Mart. That would be the final nail in the coffin for capitalism.

Now that gas prices are down, have you heard any talk of an excess profits tax on oil companies? No, but there's talk of raising the gas tax on federal and state levels. The government bureaucrats are the greedy bastards. They bleed the taxpayer, waste the money, and then they want more. If you haven't figured this out yet, where have you been?

Costco is successful, too. Just filled my fuel tank for less than half of what it would have cost me in July. The local Costco is selling regular fuel for about 24 cents less than the competition.

Costco also has books, vitamins, health products, meats, veggies and more for less than the general super market populace. The irony is that many Costco employees are paid more than those working in a super market. I once met a gal pumping gas for the day that said she was making $18 an hour. Whoa! Such a deal. But she had seniority.

Another irony is that Costco isn't hated in the same fashion as Wal Mart. Try to figure that one out.
